This past weekend I (Emma) went for a quick road trip up to the Hawkes Bay for a wedding! Known for its wineries and beautiful sunny weather, for those of you that aren’t from New Zealand, the Hawkes Bay is a gorgeous region on the East Coast of the North Island.
With literally 24 hours to spare, I spent the majority of my time in the beautiful Art Deco city of Napier. While walking through the city centre, you can’t help but feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Although a lot of the original 1920s architecture was destroyed by a huge earthquake in 1931, a lot of the beautiful architecture was rebuilt and has been restored.
So with very little time to spare, here are some of my favourite suggestions if you’re looking for a weekend getaway!
One of my favourite things about Napier is there are SO many amazing places to eat! Whether you’re looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner you will find an array of choices here.
My favourite eatery from this trip? Mister D’s Dining
Fantastic coffee (on par with Wellington), a charming environment and the most delicious food, what more could you ask for?
Like I said earlier, you also can’t go to the Hawkes Bay without stopping at one of the MANY wineries! I’ve previously been to Mission Estate and also Church Road (both fantastic), but this time I stopped at Te Awa for a change!
While walking around the city, I also stumbled across the local farmers market that was located by Clive Square! Here you’ll find everything from coffee, sweet treats, and fresh produce! Definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re staying somewhere with a kitchen.
There’s so much to see and do up here and I wish I’d had more time! But here are a couple of extra links to activities that I’ll be doing on my next visit to the Hawkes Bay!
